aLL DAy I DrEam of parties
Upon writing this we have finished the first summer season of the ‘aLL dAy I dreaM’ parties in New York. Although I’ve played many of the tracks at club events over the past few years, I wanted to play a full afternoon of totally gorgeous, melodic, melancholic, pretty house music since making the ‘all day i dream of her’ mix three years ago.. Only playing music that actually evokes a certain emotional response. Music that can make you smile and even cry sometimes (there were actually quite a few tears shed at the parties which was very touching). I have to say that each of the four parties this year were totally amazing. If you went to one you will know what I mean when I say this. The party quickly became something that belonged to everyone. Something we made our own. So many people added to each one with simple things like the way they dressed, make up, small additions to the booth (i liked the Tibetan flags) and more. Even though we experienced the threat of bad weather, which would have made the party impossible to put on, somehow it never happened. The love and positivity that surrounded all day i dream seemed to keep the storms at bay and, on july 4th, even gave us one of the most amazing sunsets I’ve ever seen. By the end of the summer I realized after each event that my face actually hurt from smiling so much. My face actually hurt in August from the most intense toothache I’ve ever had but even this drifted away when I started playing. Music can be so powerful at times.

I have to thank Sana and Emil for helping me with these parties and making sure the production was as good as it was and running each event. Our floating material which swayed in the breeze above peoples heads drew comparisons of burning man (the best compliment i could ask for). The hanging flowers added a sweet burst of natural color to the grays of brooklyn. Oh, and we also had the amazing D+B sound system which I feel is some of the best sound I’ve ever played on. Thank you to everyone who supported, both native new yorkers and the people who who flew or drove in from out of town. The mix of friends and family made it even better than I could have imagined. Also, thank you all for leaving the roof top so promptly. We had a very small window of time to break down the party so your rapid departure at 10pm made it a lot easier on the staff. Please join our Facebook fan page for the parties and for the label.
I feel music is in transition right now (for me at least) and this is something new that Matthew and I are exploring. Musical music. We are at the beginning of something that is going to spread out far beyond our lovely Brooklyn rooftop. I’ve seen musical styles grow from a single place (think DC10 a few years ago) and I believe we too are going to achieve something with this sound. If you were in New York this summer you were part of something new and we thank you all for being part of what we are pushing.
Keep an eye out for the next aLL dAY i drEAm event in new york. it’s going to be sooner that you think.
The next aLL dAY i drEAm party will be on the beach in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico on January 7th as part of the BPM festival. Music by Lee Burridge and Matthew Dekay. Party info here.
We will also be holding a party in Miami at the Winter Music Conference on March 25th. Watch this space for details.
