We stepped outside of our home base of New York in June and took a road trip to the weekly and superb Sunday party, Piknic Electronik, in Montreal. Our signature material shaded Jean Drapeau park and Hoj and I played to over five thousand smiling faces in to the dusk. “Wow” was a word spilled from many a mouth that day. Mine included.

We also launched in Los Angeles which will be our adopted West Coast home this year. West Hollywood’s Egyptian theater courtyard drew a beautiful and mixed crowd that gave me the same feeling and connectivity I get playing at Burning Man and Lightning In A Bottle festivals. Without a word of a lie this was (for me) the best party I’ve ever played in Los Angeles in the fifteen years I’ve been going. We will be hosting a few more events through the year in some cool spaces we’ve found. Matthew (Dekay) and I will be playing on a fantastic roof top in Chinatown on July 22nd. New York’s season opener was beyond mobbed. More so than we predicted so our apologies if you were a little more squished than usual. Unfortunately the venue, beautiful as it is, had been experiencing issues with the neighbors complaining about sound levels from previous events held there. Annoyingly we ended up taking the fall for everyone else’s noise complaints. This was why the sound levels were low that day. That said the party was still pretty damn good. The two bridges and the Hudson River made for a fantastic backdrop.

We’ve since regrouped and will be taking the event aboard a beautiful boat on July 15th. All Day I Dream of Floating! This will then lead us nicely back in to Brooklyn for the rest of our Summer events. We have found a new space we’re excited to work on with our production ideas. Oh, and sound will be back at a more appropriate level for a party!

What else has been going on? Oh! Lightning in a bottle festival in Irvine, California was beyond magical. The whole festival is always a really special weekend. I spent a few days eating amazing Vegetarian food and checking out all sorts of different music and performance work. Somehow I still didn’t make it to yoga (due to my somewhat lazy nature and being a little out of it) but did get to hear a few people speak and a lovely friend of mine called Shawni sing beautifully. LIB and the Woogie stage have been kind enough to bring me back for three years in a row and give me three hours to play as the sunsets. Thanks to Jessie and Sami and everyone who came and supported the stage over the weekend. What a fantastic crowd this year! I was really into the set Idiot Savant played and, once again, Pumkin. A perfect set to follow on from. Woo, fuck, yeah!

Matthew and I launched our other record label in July. The sister label (or is it the brother label as All Day I Dream seems more like a lady!) Get Weird will see releases geared more towards the music we play after dark. A place for the more dubby, techy, slinky, sultry rhythms and grooves. Are you going to Get Weird?

The first release is Konrad Black’s ‘Devastator’. I think it’s a pretty special groove. I’ve been playing it for a year already and it still makes its way in to almost all of my sets. Sexy with a dark twisted melody that finds its way in towards the end and my favorite bass line of his for years. On the flip side is ‘Tubby’ from Matt and I. A wobbly little workout.

‘Lost In A Moment’ finally saw the light of day. Released on Germany’s Innervisions label (owned by Dixon and Ame) it’s riding nicely up the online stores vinyl and digital charts. Thanks to anyone out there who’s supporting it.

We’ve pushed back the next All Day I Dream release to the first week of September. ‘Afterhours Olympics’ from our friends in Serbia and ‘Holding On’ by Matthew and I really is holding on! More news on this release to follow.

The clock is ticking down towards Burning Man festival and I’m excited. As usual I will be hosting Friday night into Saturday lunchtime with some of my favorite DJ’s from the USA. On the line up again this year are Mike Khoury, Hoj and Atish. I’m sure I’ll be adding a few more between now and then.

Thanks to everyone who’s been coming out and supporting my events both in the clubs and at our day parties. I feel something is stirring in a big way in underground electronic music again. San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Montreal, Denver and more have been some of the best parties I’ve ever played here. The events have been ridiculously busy and the parties amazing. It feels like it’s only just beginning too.

Finally, I know there are some people out there that quake at and complain about artists like deadtoad, the swedish house toads (just a stupid game I’ve made up replacing a part of any DJ’s name with ‘toad. try it. it’s fun!) and Skrillex being on the cover of or written about in Rolling Stone. The thing is that that issue also mentioned Seth Troxler, Wolf and Lamb, Jamie Jones, the Robot Heart bus from Burning man and more.

Surely with the current huge growth spurt within electronic music that all sorts of genres of all sorts of depths will benefit? The commercial end of the spectrum will always be represented by someone prepared to state the musically obvious. I don’t want to do that and it therefore (mostly) excludes me from playing to thirty thousand teenage glowstick waving ravers at events like Electric Daisy Carnival. It’s my choice and I stick by it. I embrace it. Some of those glowstick waving teenagers will eventually grow up and, more importantly, musically outward. At that point perhaps they will discover, embrace and love the music we all share a passion for. Not that I’m totally adverse to it but, I’d be cool with them leaving the glowsticks at home though.

ADID NEWS FROM MIAMI’S WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE 2012

It was our first event at the Miami Winter Music Conference and was held at Cafeina (a gorgeous walled patio). ADID is growing more beautiful by the day (party). Take a peek at our WMC photo album.

Our previous event at BPM festival in January, at the gorgeous mexican beach location of Playa Del Carmen, ended up being reported upon and cited by many as the (day) event of the festival. Finally, Matthew and I played together for the first time to a huge crowd. Endless smiles took us from early afternoon through sunset and into the night. Click here to see pictures courtesy of The BPM Festival. Following on from January’s success ADID was invited back by the organizers of BPM. Primavera, held Easter Weekend, moved venue from Mamita’s to Cannibal Royal. I was playing (sadly) without Matthew this time but my eleven hours on the decks were complimented by a great selection of tunes earlier in the day from NYC’s Stephanie. The crowd was predominantly Mexican this time around and after a strangely slow start to the day the party warmed up to become as hot as the sun that shone above us all day. I love the Mexican crowd!

So, back to the USA. We’ve almost finalized our dates for summertime in New York (and beyond). The first event of summer is planned for June 10th. We will continue with an event each month, July (the 4th anyone!!!), August and September. Watch this space and the look out for the single blue cloud for exact dates. Last year (due to the difficulty in finding any good outdoor venues without issues) we were unable to take the event to the West Coast. This year however things are looking much more promising. Upon writing this our first West Coast event will be on June 24th and we are hopeful that it will also continue through the summer as a twin to the New York events. This of course depends on your support and love!

If you are an adventurous sort and fancy a road trip (or air travel for the financially stable) ADID will be taking over Piknic Elecrtonik in Montreal on June 17th. We would love you to join us. I played the event a few years ago and it’s amazing. Every Sunday throughout summer they host a wonderful cross section of DJ’s at their outdoor party on an island in the river for a few thousand people. Montreal is a wonderful city to visit anyway so why not come enjoy it with us. More details to follow.

Keep an eye out at our events for some of the limited (and free) merchandise we are giving away. Stickers, fridge magnets and (rumor has it) All Day I Dream socks (with pockets!!). We’ve been giving these items to the people with the nicest smiles.

One of the greatest things (to me) about owning a record label that still releases vinyl is being able to do lovely artwork. We’ve just released All Day I Dream 002 (fur die liebe) and will be putting out ADID 003 in July. Thanks to Hoj’s wonderful design eye, our simple, beautiful single cloud sleeve design (every release has a different cloud) look amazing sitting next to each other. As the series grows I’m looking forward to a whole wall of clouds at home. We currently have our ADID scientists hard at work investigating whether a wall of our record sleeves (while listing to the music) helps with SAD (seasonal affective disorder). I’ll get back to you on that. Please feel free to email us any high resolution photographs of gorgeous single clouds you spot as you look skyward. You never know it might appear on one of our sleeves or posters for our events. If you do I’m sure we will be able to find something quite nice in return

ADID 002 – Fur Die Liebe in original and dub form was released in March. Available on both vinyl (although I think we have sold out) and digitally it’s received universal love from friends, family and strangers alike. Thank you. It really is a very special track to both Matthew and I. Thank you to all the DJ’s such as, Art Department, Visionquest, Dixon, Agoria, Tiefschwarz, Ame, Radioslave, Sven Vath, Kiki, Soul Clap, Ellen Alien, Ibiza Global Radio and anyone else who charted it or played it. It was the mystery track I closed out my Robotheart Burning Man Set with in 2011 and, upon writing this, is still floating around the beatport tech house chart (although i’m sure I will fail to update this news for the next two months so it’s probably no longer there at all!). If you purchased it, thanks! We currently have over 43,000 hits on YouTube ( so, if it takes your fancy, please feel free to link it through your Facebook page and spread the love this track makes me feel every time I hear it.

Breaking news…please keep your eyes open for this too. We are in the process of having a video made for Fur Die Liebe by some totally amazing people. And when I say amazing I mean really amazing. I’ll let you know more as it develops but somehow Hoj has pulled together a group of creative people who work for the likes of Oliver Stone, Terrance Mallick, Radiohead, on the recent batman movies and more. WOW is all I can say!!

Dixon has remixed Matthew and I’s ‘Lost In A Moment’. How cool is that! Germany’s Innervisions has been one of my go to labels for many years. Home to a wide selection of rather cool artists such as Ame, Culoe de Song, Henrick Schwarz, Osunlade, Larry Heard and more, Matthew and I feel honored to be asked on board. The cherry on top was hearing that Dixon who LOVES the track did the remix of it which is rare for him. It will be out mid June. Watch this cloud!

On a final (musical) note Matthew and I’s second label in six months ‘Get Weird’ has it’s first release at the end of June. The labels sound is the night to ADID’s day. Now, putting the word “WEIRD” in a labels title might give you certain ideas. At some point I know we will find our way to the weirder end of what we play but the label will be all over the place for music we play after dark in clubs across the globe. One thing is for sure when it comes to each release. It will be music to make you wiggle your hips. Promise! Our first release features an amazing track from Konrad Black called ‘Devastator’ with Matthew’s and I’s dubby track ‘Tubby’ on the other side. Available in June on vinyl and as a digital download.

I have to thank Sana and Emil for helping me with these parties and making sure the production was as good as it was and running each event. Our floating material which swayed in the breeze above peoples heads drew comparisons of burning man (the best compliment i could ask for). The hanging flowers added a sweet burst of natural color to the grays of brooklyn. Oh, and we also had the amazing D+B sound system which I feel is some of the best sound I’ve ever played on. Thank you to everyone who supported, both native new yorkers and the people who who flew or drove in from out of town. The mix of friends and family made it even better than I could have imagined. Also, thank you all for leaving the roof top so promptly. We had a very small window of time to break down the party so your rapid departure at 10pm made it a lot easier on the staff. I feel music is in transition right now (for me at least) and this is something new that Matthew and I are exploring. Musical music. We are at the beginning of something that is going to spread out far beyond our lovely Brooklyn rooftop. I’ve seen musical styles grow from a single place (think DC10 a few years ago) and I believe we too are going to achieve something with this sound. If you were in New York this summer you were part of something new and we thank you all for being part of what we are pushing.
